Since 2009 Naresh Samtani has been working with Project R19B team of Second Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2) to calibrate service limit state for foundations using AASHTO-LRFD framework. In 2015, through a contract with CH2M Hill, Naresh was selected as the lead geotechnical engineer by AASHTO for implementation of foundation related calibrations of the SHRP2 Project R19B.  As part of this ground-breaking work, Naresh co-authored a manual with Dr. John Kulicki (Modjeski and Masters) titled “Incorporation of Foundation Deformations in AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Process.”  With Dr. Wagdy Wassef (AECOM), Naresh will co-present a 1.5-day training course nationwide that will be unique in the sense the geotechnical and structural disciplines will be jointly represented with attendees being from both disciplines as well as from agencies and consultants.  Naresh will discuss the foundations aspects while Wagdy will discuss the structural aspects. The first three courses  will be delivered  to Central Federal Lands in Lakewood (Denver area), CO; Eastern Federal Lands in Sterling (Washington DC area), VA; and Western Federal Lands in Vancouver (Portland-Seattle area), WA.  Look for the schedule in the “Upcoming Events” portion of this website.
