Webinar - Effect of Fill Soil Structures on Subsurface Utilities and Adjacent Structures

Location: ASCE Continuing Online Education (All times are Eastern Time)
Date: October 30, 2017
Time: 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Fill soil structures such as embankments and retaining walls are often used to meet requirements of vertical grade separations.  The webinar will discuss the subsurface stresses and deformations due to the fill soil structures of various configurations ranging from trapezoidal embankments to back-to-back walls with or without deep foundations.  The effect the subsurface stresses and deformation on abutments, subsurface utilities, and adjacent structures will be discussed.  Such considerations lead to millions of dollars in property damage. Suggestions for appropriate geotechnical investigations and mitigation of adverse effects on subsurface utilities and adjacent structures will be provided.
