Webinar - Geotechnical Properties of Transported versus Residual Soils

Location: ASCE Continuing Online Education (All times are Eastern Time)
Date: March 12, 2018
Time: 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Soil landforms can be described according to the method of formation as residual soil landform or transported soil landform.  At least half of earth’s surface is covered by residual soils, and in today’s world the most rapid growth and development is occurring in countries that contain a high proportion of residual soils.  But yet most of the soil mechanics principles that are being taught in most universities are based on the transported soils.  This webinar will discuss the basic characteristics of these two soil landforms with emphasis on performance characteristics such as shear strength and volume change behavior.  Recommended geotechnical investigations practices will be discussed.
