Update: January 2025-December 2025

Posted by Naresh Samtani on Jan 7, 2026

Since the last blog on January 01, 2025, the following notable activities have occurred:

Updating Local and Statewide Guidance for Infiltration Study

As noted in several previous blogs, Naresh has pioneered the use of infiltration analysis to streamline deep foundation designs. In 2024, Naresh helped the Pima County Department of Transportation (PCDOT) and the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) revise their standards to include updated guidance on implementing the infiltration analysis approach.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has also expressed interest in developing guidance on implementing the infiltration approach. Naresh was asked by Caltrans to submit a proposal for developing this guidance. The submitted proposal is currently under review by Caltrans.

Expert Consultation Services

Naresh continues to provide expert consultation services to several local, national, and international firms and agencies. These have included peer reviews, expert opinions, forensic evaluations, design guidance, construction trouble-shooting, and training designers, construction inspectors, and contractors on a variety of geo-structural topics. Virtual Workshops for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)

Naresh developed and delivered 4-hour virtual workshops for ASCE in 2025. The following topics were addressed:

  1. Embankments and their Interaction with Structures and Subsurface Utilities
  2. Serviceability Effects of Foundation Movements and Deterioration of Bridge and Approach Structures
  3. Mechanically Stabilized Earth Walls – Limit State Based Design Principles
  4. Soil Nail Walls – Design and Construction
  5. Drilled Shafts in Soil and Rock – Geotechnical Design Aspects
  6. Mechanically Stabilized Earth Walls – Understanding Fill Properties and Good Practices for Details

All workshops were well attended by participants from within and outside the United States. In 2026, six 4-hour-long virtual workshops are planned. The list of workshops and the registration link are provided below.

Additionally, the well-known firm Lumivero contacted Naresh to present an educational webinar for ASCE on leveraging probabilistic analysis tools, such as its flagship @RISK software, to better quantify safety in civil engineering applications. Naresh will be presenting this webinar on January 22, 2025. This webinar is sponsored by Lumivero and is FREE. Information about the webinar, including registration link, is available at https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/7316770914974/WN_-LmuQMt8RJORGq5FWzU94A#/registration.
