Abstract

This report was developed as part of the technical assistance provided through the Implementation Assistance Program (IAP) of FHWA and AASHTO and concentrates on the work related to foundation deformations developed as part of SHRP2’s Service Limit State Design for Bridges.  The goal of the report is to explain the implementation of calibrations for foundation movements into the bridge design process. The scope of this report is to identify and consolidate the relevant content of the R19B report (Kulicki, et al., 2015) and additional materials developed since the issuance of the R19B report (for example, flow charts and examples based on the comments received as part of the various presentations previously noted).  This is the Second Edition and includes (a) significant updates to the First Edition, and (b) information that is included in the 9th Edition (2020) AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications.
